Koops Factory Automation is medium sized company focused on providing custom factory automation and manufacturing engineering to a wide array of customers. The company is based in Holland, MI. Koops excels at providing solid engineering solutions with quality customer service.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
I was assigned to the project management team, and was able to work on a variety of tasks and projects. I was tasked with my own project to manage, a small cell containing a single robotic unit. This project provided an excellent introduction to project management. I also assisted in working on various other projects, including multiple robotic sonic welding and clip driving stations, and a resistance welding cell.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
I was able to get a broad overview of factory automation, and the various steps in the process follow. I got to work closely with many different teams, including the mechanical engineering design team, the controls team, and the mechanical assembly team. I learned many different skills, including troubleshooting mechanical systems, basic ladder logic, and the machine debug process. I also greatly improved my communication and organization skills
Favorite Part of the Experience
I loved getting to work hands on with different projects, and getting to troubleshoot and solve problems. It was a lot of fun to observe and work alongside the engineers as they solved the various problems encountered.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
This experience has helped expose me to the automation industry and given me valuable experience in project management, which will be very useful as I consider my future career.
