NN Inc. is a leading global manufacturer of metal bearings, plastic, rubber, and precision metal components, with over 26 manufacturing facilities around the world. The Autocam Precision Components group specializes in high precision metal components.
Description of the Tasks/Projects Completed
Over the course of my co-op I designed and tested a fully mechanical cell to categorize multiple parts, I assisted in process layout and documentation for new jobs, and I designed and conducted multiple experiments which lead to process improvements and waste reduction.
Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The Experience
Just a few skills that I have gained from my co-op experience include: -Calculating tooling parameters which yield maximum efficiency and minimal waste. -Designing processes which are feasible, maintainable, and profitable. -Improving my interactions with co-workers in an efficient and professional manor.
Favorite Part of the Experience
My favorite part of this co-op was learning by doing. My supervisor taught me by giving me hands on tasks. The only way to complete the tasks given me was to do research, seek input from engineers and technicians, and conduct some inevitable trial and error.
How the Experience Influenced Future Career Goals
My co-op experience did not influence my goals as much as it did my confidence in achieving my goals. After just my first co-op I feel much more confident in becoming a good engineer after graduation.
