Pew FTLC - Thanks for the Feedback: Giving and Receiving Feedback from Peers Faculty Learning Community
Description
How can we learn to better receive feedback from colleagues? Faculty feedback is crucial to professional growth, yet many of us are uncomfortable receiving and giving feedback. Feedback is an integral component of the faculty review process; to be effective colleagues we need to be able to provide constructive responses to our peers. Participants will read "Thanks for the Feedback: The Science and Art of Receiving Feedback Well" by Douglas Stone and Sheila Heen, discuss the examples and advise shared by the authors, and work to apply the principles to their own experience. The authors explain the science behind why feedback is so challenging and share practical solutions. Discussion will center around how to receive and provide feedback, including a focus on understanding personal triggers that block the reception of feedback, how to separate appreciation, coaching, and evaluation, cultivating a growth identity and navigating conversations and concluding with five action steps.
