Description
Are you preparing for an upcoming sabbatical or other form of leave? Intrigued by the idea of a Fulbright Scholar or Fulbright Specialist award and eager to learn more? Join this Fulbright Scholar information session to hear from GVSU colleagues who have been Fulbright Scholars in the recent past and from your campus Fulbright liaison, Dr. Tooley. We'll have plenty of time for Q&A, as well!
All GVSU faculty who are interested in the possibility of conducting
research and/or teaching overseas through a competitive faculty
fellowship are welcome. See the Fulbright
Scholar and Fulbright Specialist websites for more
information about these awards (and see the Faculty Fellowships webpage for additional
fellowship possibilities).
The Fulbright
Scholar program offers over 450 teaching, research or combination
teaching/research awards in over 130 countries. The application
process is not as difficult and complex as you may think, and a
Fulbright award is a delight to experience. Many recent applications
by GVSU faculty have been successful. The application process for the Fulbright Scholar
award has a mid-September deadline for awards in the 2025-26 academic
year. Fulbright grants typically support work for semester or
academic-year terms.
Fulbright Specialist awards pair highly qualified U.S. academics and professionals with host institutions abroad to share their expertise, strengthen institutional linkages, hone their skills, gain international experience, and learn about other cultures while building capacity at their overseas host institutions. Peer review panels evaluate applications approximately every eight weeks, so there are multiple application deadlines throughout the year. Specialists are placed on a roster for three years; hosting institutions draw from this roster for focused visit invitations. You’ll find the application deadlines readily available on the Fulbright Specialist website.
Food will be served! Join us for good conversation about exciting opportunities within the Fulbright Scholar Program!
We will begin with a brief panel presentation. Presenters include:
- Salvatore Alaimo, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Nonprofit Management
- Sherie Klee, Ph.D., Professor of Education and COST Program International Director
- Médar Serrata, Ph.D., Professor of Spanish and Latin American and Latino/a Studies
Please feel most welcome to contact Dr. Brenda Tooley by email if you would like to learn more. We can arrange a time for a zoom conversation.
This event also appears on the main events calendar tagged as academic, administration, cuse, fellowships, and international.
