Grand Valley's Advertising and Public Relations
program was named to the PRNEWS
2022 Education A-List. This is the second year in a row that the
program was named to the A-List, which highlights the top 40 PR
programs in the country.
David VanderSloot, director of Conference Planning
and Hospitality Services, received the Volunteer of the Year award at
the National Association of College Auxiliary Services conference. The
award recognizes members who have demonstrated exceptional volunteer
work, at the regional and/or national level, that supports the NACAS mission.
"Life Among the Terranauts," a book of short stories by
Caitlin Horrocks, professor of writing, was named
to Good Housekeeping's Best
Books of 2021.
Sketches
Faculty and staff members who have given presentations or had their
research published are detailed below. The campus community can self-submit
a sketch online for future publication.
Susan Strouse, associate professor of nursing, gave a
presentation, "Using Technology to Enhance Scholarship:
Unintended Benefits from the Pandemic," at the American
Association of Colleges of Nursing Transform 2021 Conference in
Dallas, Texas.
Adrienne Wallace, associate professor of advertising
and public relations, gave presentations, "Effective Use of
Experiential Learning," at the 2021 Marketing Management
Association Fall Educators' Conference; and "Destination
Engagement: Benefits of Professional Certificates, Simulations, and
Project Based Learning in the PR Classroom," at the Public
Relations Society of America Educators' Academy Conference.
Public health faculty members Sarah Nechuta, Katie Barnhart,
Ranelle Brew, Azizur Molla, Karen Niemchick, Julia
VanderMolen and Heather Wallace gave a
presentation, "Social Connectedness among College Students during
the COVID-19 Pandemic," at the American Public Health Association
Annual Meeting.
Guests at an event hosted on the Health Campus learned how portable ultrasound technology is saving lives in remote areas of Africa. The cybersecurity program earned designation status from the National Security Agency.
Highlights include a student recognized nationally for their commitment to democratic engagement, and Project Grand Path will be presented at a tech and innovation conference in Colorado.
