Faculty and staff members who have given presentations, were recognized for outstanding contributions or had their research published are detailed below. The campus community can submit a sketch online for future publication. 

In the News

Laila McCloud, assistant professor of educational leadership and counseling, was interviewed for a story about insights on teaching published by the Chronicle of Higher Education. McCloud was also a co-author of an article, "Artificial Goods: Credentialism and Student Affairs Professional Development," published in the Journal of College Student Development.

Donta Truss, vice president for Enrollment Development and Educational Outreach, and new graduate Javier Guillen were interviewed by WOOD-TV for a story about the HBCU-HSI Pipeline Consortium.

Todd Buckingham, visiting professor of exercise science, was interviewed by Livestrong for an article about nighttime activities that help build muscles.

Geology faculty members Peter Wampler and Peter Riemersma and students were interviewed by WZZM-TV for a story about the "Water in the West" experiential learning program.

Paul Stansbie, associate dean, College of Education and Community Innovation, was interviewed by MoneyGeek for a story about finding the right travel credit card

Louis Moore, professor of history, was interviewed by the Free Press for a story about NCAA student athletes and the Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) policy.

Sketches

Elizabeth Doyle, executive associate for Presidential Initiatives, Inclusion and Equity, and Karyn Rabourn, associate professor of higher education and director of the Master of Education, Higher Education Program, were selected to participate in the June cohort of the HERS (Higher Education Resources Services) Leadership Institute at Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

Matthew Roberts, senior instructional design specialist for eLearning Technologies, received the Michigan Blackboard Users' Group "Distinguished Member of the Year" award at the annual conference held at Grand Valley.

Bruce Ostrow, professor of biology, was a co-author of an article, "Convergent Deployment of Ancestral Functions During the Evolution of Mammalian Flight Membranes," published in Science Advances.

Sarah Williams, assistant professor of English, wrote an article, "U.S. Third Culture Kids' Identity and College Success," published in International Journal of Intercultural Relations.

Jason Crouthamel, professor of history, gave a presentation, "'I Am the Lord of My Nerves': Trauma, Masculinity and German Pilots in the First World War," at the Society of Military History Conference in San Diego, California.

Steve Glass, professor of movement science, was the keynote speaker, presenting, "Learning Upgrade! Research Experience to Build your Skillset in Critical Thought and Problem Solving," at the Michigan meeting of the American College of Sports Medicine. 

Psychology faculty members Michael Wolfe and Todd Williams were co-authors of an article, "Health Change Awareness and its Association with Weight Loss following Bariatric Surgery," published in Health Psychology.

Eric Kunnen, senior director for IT Innovation and Research, participated as a panelist for an Inside Higher Ed webinar, "IT Leadership Panel: Exploring 5 Key Trends in Higher Education," facilitated by Logitech.
