WGVU-FM announced on March 24 it is a finalist for the Michigan
Association of Broadcasters Station Excellence Award. The award
recognizes Michigan radio and television stations that demonstrate
excellence in overall performance, including programming, community
service and marketing.
The MAB’s Broadcast Excellence Awards Gala will be April 29 at the
MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit.
This year, WGVU-FM was honored with five best-in-category awards,
including Feature/Use of a Medium; Marketing Materials & Promos;
Musical Programming; Newscast; and Special Interest & Cultural
Programming. Additionally, WGVU-FM is a finalist for Community Involvement.
"Individual successes are always celebrated," said Patrick
Center, WGVU news and public affairs director. "This past year
proved WGVU has many talented colleagues performing at a high level.
Taken together, the MAB accomplishments demonstrate an impressive team effort."
WGVU-FM strives for excellence in broadcasting by providing quality
programming for its listeners and engaging in meaningful community
outreach initiatives.
“It’s exciting to see the hard work our local team puts in each day
recognized for its impact and excellence,” Jim Rademaker, WGVU general
manager, said.
WGVU's broadcast stations are licensed to Grand Valley as public
radio and television facilities, operating from the Meijer Public
Broadcast Center on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus.
Leanne Kang gave a presentation about research and oral histories of former GRPS students, staff and faculty at a community event. The project was funded by the Kutsche Office of Local History.
Motivational speaker Darrell "Coach D" Andrews spoke to hundreds of GEAR UP students; a sociology professor received a Distinguished Scholarly Publication award for his book.
