Faculty and staff members who have given presentations, were recognized for outstanding contributions or had their research published are detailed below. The campus community can submit a sketch online for future publication.

Jeff Kelly Lowenstein, associate professor of multimedia journalism, and undergraduate students worked on an investigative project about American nursing homes that was cited in reports by the U.S. Committee on Finance and Aging. 

Rick Rediske, professor of water resources, was interviewed by WOOD-TV for a story about pollutants that are discharged from oil refineries into the Great Lakes.

Christopher Kierkus, professor of criminal justice, was interviewed by WLIX-TV in Lansing for a story about gun reform laws debated in the Michigan Legislature.

Paul Isely, professor of economics and associate dean for Seidman College of Business, was interviewed by WOOD-TV for a story about the effect of right-to-work laws on Michigan's economy.

Connie Dang, senior inclusion and equity officer for the Division of Inclusion and Equity, and Lupe Ramos-Montigny were interviewed by WOOD-TV for a story previewing the César E. Chávez social justice march, which raises money for scholarships.

Sketches

Valerie Peterson, professor of communications studies, gave a presentation, "General Semantics and Sex," at the Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture and the Ecologies of Mind, Media and Meaning Symposium in New York City. Peterson wrote an article, "Rolly Chairs and Media Ecology: Applying Communication Theory to the Activity Permissible Classroom," published in the Explorations in Media Ecology.

Kelly Machnik, assistant professor of occupational science and therapy; Mikhila Wildey, associate professor of psychology; Meghan Fox, assistant professor of physical therapy and athletic training; and Deborah Ronk, former field educator coordinator for social work, were authors of an article, "Exploring Graduate Student Mental Health and Service Utilization by Gender, Race, and Year in School," published in the Journal of American College Health.

Nicholus B. Kopacki, faculty-site director of the Physician Assistant Studies program in Traverse City, wrote an article, "Antibiotic Administration times for sepsis patients in the Emergency Department," published in the Michigan PA Newsletter.

Sok Kean Khoo, associate professor of cell and molecular biology; Cathy Harro and Michael Shoemaker, associate professors of physical therapy and athletic training; Julie Hall, assistant professor of medical laboratory science and graduate students were authors of an article, "Effects of Nordic Walking Exercise on Gait, Motor/non-motor Symptoms, and Serum Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor in Individuals with Parkinson's Disease," published in Frontiers in Rehabilitation Sciences.

Jeanine Beasley, professor of occupational science and therapy, gave a presentation, "Conservative Management of Boutonniere and Swan Neck Deformities," at the American Society of Hand Surgeons annual meeting in Miami, Florida.

Ian Cleary, associate professor of biomedical sciences, was a co-author of an article, "Examining the effects of BRG1 over-expression on Candida albicans strains growing as pseudohyphae" published in Folia Microbiologica.

Christian Glupker, clinical affiliate faculty of economics, completed the Economic Assessment of the 2022 National Cherry Festival.

Ronald Loeffler, associate professor of philosophy, wrote a chapter, "Moral We-Intentions as Individualistic We-Attitudes," for a book, Ethics, Practical Reasoning, Agency. Wilfrid Sellars's Practical Philosophy published by Routledge.
