Jeff Kelly Lowenstein, associate professor of
multimedia journalism, and undergraduate students worked on an
investigative project about American nursing homes that was cited in
reports
by the U.S. Committee on Finance and Aging.
Valerie Peterson, professor of communications
studies, gave a presentation, "General Semantics and Sex,"
at the Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture and the Ecologies of Mind,
Media and Meaning Symposium in New York City. Peterson wrote an
article, "Rolly Chairs and Media Ecology: Applying Communication
Theory to the Activity Permissible Classroom," published in the
Explorations in Media Ecology.
Kelly Machnik, assistant professor of occupational
science and therapy; Mikhila Wildey, associate
professor of psychology; Meghan Fox, assistant
professor of physical therapy and athletic training; and
Deborah Ronk, former field educator coordinator for
social work, were authors of an article, "Exploring
Graduate Student Mental Health and Service Utilization by Gender,
Race, and Year in School," published in the Journal of
American College Health.
Jeanine Beasley, professor of occupational science
and therapy, gave a presentation, "Conservative Management of
Boutonniere and Swan Neck Deformities," at the American Society
of Hand Surgeons annual meeting in Miami, Florida.
Leanne Kang gave a presentation about research and oral histories of former GRPS students, staff and faculty at a community event. The project was funded by the Kutsche Office of Local History.
Motivational speaker Darrell "Coach D" Andrews spoke to hundreds of GEAR UP students; a sociology professor received a Distinguished Scholarly Publication award for his book.
