Igniting the Future
Christina and Andy Keller
On Tuesday, June 13, Christina and Andy Keller were celebrated as they received the Leadership Award at the GVU Foundation Enrichment Dinner. The Leadership Award honors emerging next-generation leaders whose active commitment to public service, economic development, education, cultural enrichment, and ethical standards have contributed significantly to the quality of life in West Michigan.
For the Kellers, Grand Valley is a family legacy. Christina's father, Fred Keller, founded Cascade Engineering in 1973 and was instrumental in GVSU's successful campaign to bring undergraduate engineering education to Grand Rapids. As the CEO of the Cascade Engineering Family of Companies and a GVU Foundation director, Christina expanded on her father's work to bring both Cascade Engineering and Laker STEM programs to new levels.
"Both of them were really hungry for what I would say is giving back, because that Keller family is one of service," said Diana Sieger, president of Grand Rapids Community Foundation and GVU Foundation director.
The Kellers' generosity stems from being raised in a service-focused families and a genuine interest in investing in the future generation. Andy is a principal engineer at Blue Medora and works closely with young developers to nurture local technology startups.
"I think Andy's biggest contribution to technology in Grand Rapids has been the mentorship he's done for young developers," explained Carl Erickson, founder, Atomic Object. "It's invaluable for these young people to learn software development from people who are masters of the subject like Andy."
Together, the Kellers are actively engaged in the work of the Keller Foundation, where Andy serves on the executive committee. As third-generation supporters of Grand Valley, they have been among the first donors to help develop West Michigan's tech talent pipeline through the Laker Accelerated Talent Link. The Talent Link connects senior students to leading West Michigan employer partners by building a strong connection throughout their senior year. Through this collaboration, students enhance their education and foster connections that will launch their careers after graduation.
"Christina always emphasized real, authentic collaboration among the non-profit community as well as the business community and people who live in the community," said Sieger.
Christina and Andy are fully engaged in the future of our region and our state. Their leadership is an inspiration to others in their generation and beyond. Grand Valley and West Michigan will flourish under their leadership as the university moves towards what comes next.
