Kyle Smith Irwin has an undergraduate degree in humanities from Michigan State University and a master's in library science from Western Michigan University. She serves as chair on the John Ball Zoo Board, as well as nine other boards that deal with affordable housing, issues regarding women and children, and the arts. Kyle serves on the Grand Valley University Foundation board and received the Grand Valley University Foundation Leadership Award in 1993.
