ENG 661 (Author or Topic Seminar): Literature of the Caribbean
This course is designed to examine literature from the Caribbean in its historical and cultural contexts. Though primarily focused on contemporary works, a historical overview including European colonial literature, will be part of the course. During the semester we will focus on such issues as identity, decolonization, globalization, imperialism, and the Caribbean diaspora. You will become familiar with major writers of Caribbean literature, such as Derek Walcott, Erna Brodber, Kwame Dawes, Jamaica Kincaid, V.S. Naipaul, Samuel Selvon, Lorna Goodison and many others.
