NEW COMBINED DEGREE PROGRAM BRINGS GVSU TO A TOTAL OF EIGHT COMBINED PROGRAM OPTIONS
October 02, 2018
With the recent addition of the Combined Exercise Science (B.S.) / Master of Athletic Training (M.A.T.) program, GVSU now offers seven approved Combined Degree Programs. Combined Bachelor/Master degree programs allow students to complete both degrees sooner by allowing graduate credits to count towards undergraduate graduation. Students typically complete their bachelor’s and master’s degree in as few as 5 years, thus saving both time and money compared to completing both degrees separately. GVSU’s current Combined Degree Programs are as follows:
- Accounting (B.S /. M.S.)
- Cell and Molecular Biology (B.S. / M.S.)
- Computer Engineering (B.S.E.) / Computer Information Systems (M.S.)
- Computer Science (B.S.) / Computer Information Systems (M.S.)
- Engineering (B.S.E. / M.S.E)
- Information Systems (B.S.) / Computer Information Systems (M.S.)
- Exercise Science (B.S.) / Athletic Training (M.A.T) (*New 2019-2020*)
After completing 120 credits and all requirements for the bachelor’s degree, students are awarded a bachelor’s degree. A minimum of 21 graduate credits must be completed after the 120 credits of the bachelor’s degree. All other master’s degree requirements must be met, including a graduate capstone. More program specific details including application requirements and coursework information can be found on the Combined Degree Program website, https://www.gvsu.edu/gs/combined-degree-programs-85.htm.
GVSU also offers a Student Initiated Combined Degree Program, offering students the opportunity to design their own combine undergraduate and graduate degree programs from different disciplines. The Student Initiated Combined Degree allows students create a combine undergraduate and graduate degree program that meet their personal, academic, and career goals. Students may apply for the Student Initiated Combined Degree program after completing a minimum of 45 undergraduate credit hours. Interested students should start by talking about their interest with their faculty advisor. The key is identifying which graduate courses could be applied toward undergraduate degree program requirements. More program details as well as the online graduate application can be found on the Student Initiated Combined Degree program website, www.gvsu.edu/sicd.
