Resources from the University Counseling Center
September 12, 2023
The University Counseling Center (UCC) strives to be acknowledged as an essential resource for enhancing student mental health, well-being, and academic success. This year Grand Valley is welcoming its biggest student body yet, so the counseling center is going to have many different services available to fit students’ needs.
The UCC offers students ten individual counseling sessions and unlimited group counseling sessions. They also offer identity-and theme-based groups. Workshops are also available for stress management, self-compassion, and managing depression, just to name a few.
Conveniently, the UCC also offers a service where students can talk to an advisor without scheduling an appointment called, Lets Talk. It is more like a casual conversation and receiving advice. Virtual drop-in times are available daily. It is first-come, first-served and time with a therapist usually lasts about 20-25 minutes.
Togetherall, is another service that the UCC offers virtually where students can speak about their problems 24/7. They can also connect with students that are going through similar issues. On the other end, there are mental health professionals ready to help. This is completely confidential as students use the platform on their phone.
Lastly, the UCC offers QPR suicide prevention training, mental heath screenings, and peer education programs through the semester. The first mental health screening is on October 8th. The UCC website also showcases encouraging videos to help students get through their problems and those are also available 24/7.
Please, check out our website for a full review of all we can offer and how students can access these services.
