Researching Her Way to the Top
November 26, 2019
Katherine Skocelas is a former GVSU student who graduated with her Master of Science in Computer Information Systems in August 2019. She was a NASA Michigan Space Grant Consortium Graduate Fellowship contestant and spent her summer researching the use of search-based and artificial techniques to automatically generate executable models of software systems based on those models’ behavior in the face of unexpected environmental scenarios. She presented her findings at the MSGC Fall Conference on October 12th, 2019.
Her interest in the topic came from her inspiration to identify and mitigate unexpected environmental scenarios to develop autonomous software systems that necessitate a high level of assurance and success. She had multiple CIS professors help her develop and articulate her experiment plan. It was exciting for her to work with a prototype robot and gather the data and results that she did.
Katherine is currently a dual PhD student in Computer Science and Engineering and Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Behavior at Michigan State University. Great job on all of the hard work, Katherine!
