Grad Students Serve on University Committees

In 2013-14, the Graduate Student Association (GSA) successfully petitioned faculty governance to add graduate student representation to the university standing committees. GSA has reached out to the graduate population to fill those seats with current students representing the interests and needs of GVSU's 3,458 graduate students in 2014-15.

The university committees and their graduate student representatives for Fall 2014 are:

Academic Policies and Standards Committee: Michael Kurley, Business Administration

Faculty Facilities Planning and Advisory Committee: Elizabete Saukas, Public Administration

Faculty Teaching and Learning Center Advisory Committee: Justin DeLand, Public Administration

Online Academic Committee: Wladimir Abramenka, Educational Technology

University Academic Senate: Alaina Clarke, Public Administration

University Assessment Committee: Dawn Drazba, College Student Affairs Leadership

Graduate students have held voting seats on Graduate Council since its inception in 2004-05. The students serving as voting members of Graduate Council are:

Lyza Ingraham (Curriculum Subcommittee), Public Administration/Social Work

Katherine Hekstra (Policy Subcommittee), Biomedical Sciences

Current Graduate Students still interested in being active in faculty governance and GSA can join Graduate Chamber as a representative of their respective graduate programs. Those interested can contact GSA Vice-President Samantha Lynn at [email protected]. GSA is still seeking a Membership Chair position on its Executive Board as well. These position descriptions are available on the GSA webpage.
