GVSU Psychology Department to Collaborate with Ottawa Area Intermediate School District to Develop Behavior Support Plans

Ottawa Area Intermediate School District (OAISD) and the School Psychology program at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) will be working collaboratively during the 2016-17 academic year to develop behavior support plans for Ottawa County students that present significant challenging behaviors.

GVSU faculty from the psychology department, two GVSU graduate assistants from the school psychology program, OAISD and local district behavior consultants will be working together to create a protocol to help students exhibiting behaviors that interfere with academic progress and social opportunities. GVSU and OAISD will develop individual assessment and intervention plans for each student.

The two GVSU graduate students selected from the school psychology program, Alexis Terpstra and Ann Kampfschulte, have prior experience working in schools and implementing behavior support plans. They will both receive extensive training in school-based behavior support practices for this partnership. Faculty members with expertise in behavioral assessment and intervention for challenging behaviors as well as experience with multi-tiered systems of support will be working with the two graduate students in this program. Congratulations to Alexis and Ann on this extraordinary opportunity.
