November 01, 2016
Ja'Kia Marie, a 2016 M.Ed. in Higher Education, recently published her thesis findings titled, "Racial Identity Development of African American Students in Relation to Black Studies Courses." She published her findings in the Journal of Pan-African Studies, "...a trans-disciplinary online peer-reviewed scholarly journal devoted to the intellectual synthesis of research, scholarship and critical thought on the African experience around the world" (JPAS, n.d., para. 1.). Her piece explored reasons why undergraduate African American students decided to enroll or not enroll in Black Studies Courses at a Midwestern public institution. Ja'Kia also placed 2nd in Grand Valley State University's inaugural 3-Minute Thesis competition. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Pan-African Studies at the University of Louisville.
