Two Graduate Students Partner with Local Schools, Improve College-Going Culture

Two Grand Valley graduate students, Te’Asia Martin and Jeremy Bissett, have spent the fall semester partnering with Godwin Heights Public Schools and Kelloggsville Public Schools to extend the reach of the school counseling programs and promote college access. This unique partnership between these two districts, The Graduate School at GVSU, the College of Education at GVSU and the Michigan College Access Network has created a program that has improved a college-going culture in public schools.

Te’Asia is currently planning a trip in the upcoming semester to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Jeremy has now partnered with math teachers in the area to connect with students on a weekly basis. These experiences have truly complemented their graduate coursework in the classroom and has given them an opportunity to apply their learning during their studies to strengthen their skills.

Te'Asia is a student in the College Student Affairs Leadership cohort of the Higher Education program. Jeremy is a student in the School Counseling program.
