An ongoing ArtPrize Grand River project asks for public input

Civic Studio participants are soliciting help from the public to gather images and stories about the Grand River raft races of the past. Songwriters and musicians are also invited to compose songs about the river. Both are part of the "On the River" project of GrandValleyStateUniversity's Civic Studio, located on the InterurbanGillettBridge during ArtPrize.

"The public has responded with excitement as they get a blast from the past from images on display in our studio," said Michael Wolf, project curator. "Having received such a huge response, we have decided to open it up to the public to see what other stories and images people might want to share about the event."

The public is invited to the studio to share stories and photos of the races on Thursday, October 1 starting at 4 p.m. Images can be digitized on site and included in the studio's public archive. Participants can also upload their images to the public wiki for the project at http://civicstudio.org/river on the link "Remembering the Raft Races." After dusk on Thursday, the archive will be presented in a large projection for public viewing.

More information is available on the song project wiki at: http://civicstudio.org/river/index.php/Songs_About_the_Grand_River. Civic Studio is a project of the Department of Art and Design at GrandValleyStateUniversity. Civic Studio's ArtPrize ID is 3510, or http://artprize.org/artist/id/4510.
