Awards recognize commitment to campus women

The Celebrating Women Awards ceremony on April 1 recognized faculty and staff members for their support of women on campus, and women and girls in the community.

The ceremony was held in the Kirkhof Center and sponsored by the Women's Commission, Women's Center, Women and Gender Studies Department and Positive Black Women.

Erin Busscher, academic advisor for the Kirkhof College of Nursing, received the Maxine Swanson Award. Busscher had chaired the COT Development Committee and served on the Women’s Commission committee that successfully helped create a new career coach position at Grand Valley.

Two Women's Impact Awards were presented; the Women’s Commission award goes to an individual who works to improve the lives of women at Grand Valley, and/or women and girls in the community. Ramya Ramanath, assistant professor of public, nonprofit and health administration, and Barb Bivens, custodial staff member, received the awards.

Donna Henderson-King, associate professor of psychology, received the Barbara Jordan Award for excellence in scholarly contributions to the women and gender studies field.
