After serving in the Provost's Office on an interim basis last year, Maria Cimitile will return there to work as Grand Valley’s academic program and curriculum development officer.
Gayle R. Davis, provost and vice president for academic affairs, made the announcement in mid-August. Davis said a search was conducted for this position, which is an expanded job description for what had been the provost's liaison to university curriculum committees.
“Grand Valley has slowed growth in its student body and nearly
reached its optimum size, and state funding has continually
decreased,” Davis said. “Therefore, we need to be even more careful
than usual in planning for new curriculum, new programs or academic directions.”
Cimitile began her new duties last week. She will work with
Grand Valley’s colleges and departments to provide informational
resources and support and also work with UAS committees, Admissions
and Graduate Studies.
Cimitile, associate professor of philosophy, began working at
Grand Valley in 1999. Last year, she covered curriculum-related duties
for Nancy Giardina, who was away serving an American Council on
Education fellow. Cimitile has also served as an associate dean for
curriculum in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and chaired the
Faculty Salary and Budget Committee.
“Her administrative experience coupled with integrative
thinking, meticulous work and interpersonal skills make Dr. Cimitile a
perfect fit for this position,” Davis said.
