Collection taken on campus to help with oil spill relief

The Children's Enrichment Center has established a drop-off site for the campus community to donate items to help with the clean-up effort following the oil spill in the Kalamazoo River.

The collection will run through Monday, August 9. Items requested are vegetable oil, Dawn dish soap, large and medium bath towels and linens. The towels and linens (white works best) should be washed without fabric softener.

Sharalle Arnold, director of the center, said she and staff members often look for service-learning opportunities to involve the children and their families. Items dropped off at the center will be brought to Circle D Wildlife Refuge in Vicksburg. The nonprofit organization is involved in the relief effort.

Jennifer Palm, office coordinator for Graduate Studies, is working with Rebecca Brinkley, a graduate student, who is familiar with Circle D's efforts. They are collecting items at the Pew Grand Rapids Campus; items can be brought to the DeVos Center, room 318C.
