John Constantelos
and Polly Diven, professors of political science, gave a presentation, "Public Confidence in the EU: A Multivariate Analysis of the World Values Survey's Fifth Wave," at the Fifth Pan-European Conference on EU Politics, Porto, Portugal.

Edward Baum, director of the Center for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Education, gave a presentation, "Preparing Students for Success in College," at the Process Education 2010 conference of the Academy of Process Educators held in St. Louis.

Dan Golembeski, associate professor of Modern Languages and Literatures, gave a presentation, "A l'écoute des Franco-Ontariens: les représentations sociolinguistiques des francophones de Hearst" (Listening to the Voices of French Ontario: Sociolinguisic Representations in the French-Speaking Community of Hearst)  at the conference Les Français d'ici at the University of Montreal.

Michael Walenta, general manager for WGVU, received the Professional Pioneer Award from the Michigan Association of Public Broadcasters. He was honored at a statewide MAPB banquet in Plymouth.

Bobby Springer, associate director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs, gave a presentation on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., while at the annual national GEAR UP conference.

Jim Schaub, adjunct professor of communications, directed the documentary film "Up from the Bottoms: The Search for the American Dream," which will be aired July 25, at 1 p.m., at the National Geographic Headquarters as part of the Washington, D.C., African Diaspora Film Festival. The film was also accepted for the Roxbury International Film Festival in Boston, July 29-August 2, and the Martha's Vineyard African-American Film Festival August 11-14.

Charlie Lowe, assistant professor of writing, co-edited an essay collection written by teachers for students. Released under Creative Commons licenses, the essays can be downloaded and used for free in any classroom. Visit http://writingspaces.org/volume1.

Kevin Tutt, associate professor and assistant chair of music, was named to serve a four-year term on the editorial committee of the Music Educators Journal, a publication of the National Association for Music Education.

Lisa Feurzeig, associate professor of music, will serve a three-year term as a member of the Thomas Hampson Fund Committee, which supports research and publication on Classic Song.
