Virgina (Ginny) Peterson, associate
professor of geology, was selected as a Geological Society of America
Fellow. She will be recognized at the annual GSA meeting in Denver in October.
Edward Baum, director of the Center for Excellence in
Science and Mathematics Education, conducted a workshop, "What
Happens in the College Classroom: Pedagogy and Learning Space
Design," at the 2010 Great Lakes Regional Conference of the
Council of Educational Facility Planners International.
Kingshuk Majumdar, assistant professor of physics,
co-wrote an article, “Ground-State Phase Diagram of the Quantum J1-J2
spin-1/2 Heisenberg Antiferromagnet on an Anisotropic Square Lattice,”
published in the Journal of Statistical Mechanics.
Al Steinman, director of the Annis Water Resources
Institute, chaired an external panel charged to review the University
of Notre Dame’s Global Linkages of Biology, the Environment, and
Society program. He also gave a presentation on the Great Lakes at a
Wege Foundation event.
Richard Vallery, assistant professor of physics,
received the Single Investigator Cottrell College Science Award from
the Research Corporation of Science Advancement in the amount of
$35,000 for undergraduate research in the sciences.
