Roger Moiles, affiliate professor of
political science, was interviewed by WOOD-AM for a story about
primary races, and by WPRR-AM for a story about the politics of the
Gulf oil spill. He also served as a panelist for WGVU-TV's "West
Michigan Week" focused on Michigan's gubernatorial election
Sketches
Jim Schaub, adjunct professor of
communications, received an award at the XXV International Black
Cinema in Berlin, Germany, for the documentary film he directed
"Up from the Bottoms: The Search for the American Dream." It
premiered in Chicago at the 8th Annual African Diaspora Film Festival.
Avis Hewitt, associate professor of English, co-wrote
a book, Flannery O'Connor in the Age of Terrorism: Essays on
Violence and Grace, published by the University of Tennessee
Press.
Several tracks from the CD “In C Remixed,” by the GVSU New Music
Ensemble, directed by Bill Ryan, associate professor
of music, will be used by the Artesan Dance Company at the Casino de
Paris, in Paris, France.
Deanna Morse, professor of communications, taught
animation classes at the Middleburg Center for Transatlantic Studies
in Middelburg, The Netherlands, which is associated with the Roosevelt
Academy, the International Honors College of Utrecht University.
Carl Ruetz, associate professor of biology at the
Annis Water Resources Institute, received a grant for $100,264 from
the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment for the
Demographic and Reproductive Status of Lake Sturgeon in the Muskegon
River project.
WGVU-TV received a $25,000 grant from the Corporation
for Public Broadcasting to help raise awareness of WGVU's impact on
the community and to strengthen the community initiative LZ Michigan.
News and Information Services received Communicator Awards for the following videos: Around Grand Valley Tour, 2009 Convocation, 2009 Commencement and GVSU Police Academy.
Linda Scott, professor of nursing, received a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, to fund a third year of a project, "Advancing Education Nursing Traineeships."
Jonathan Nichol, assistant professor of music, is a member of the h2 quartet, which was invited to perform at the ASCAP awards ceremony in New York. He also received an Aaron Copland Recording Grant for $6,500.
Karen Libman, professor of communications, directed the Grand Rapids Jewish Theatre production of "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh: The Allan Sherman Musical."
Jill Eggers, associate professor of art and design,
received the $500 second place award at the Muskegon Museum of Art
82nd Regional Exhibition for her oil painting, “Returning to Earth.”
Victoria Veenstra, associate professor of
communications, received an $100 honorable mention at the Muskegon
Museum of Art 82nd Regional Exhibition for her Chromogenic pinhole
photography. An artists’ reception at the museum is June 24 from 5-7
p.m.
