Farmers Market customers can support Student Food Pantry

Grand Valley's Farmers Market opens June 9, from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in parking lot F on the Allendale Campus.

The market, now in its fourth year, will continue each Wednesday through September 29. Along with shopping for fresh foods from local vendors, market customers can aid their community by supporting Grand Valley's Student Food Pantry and donating goods to Goodwill.

The Student Food Pantry, operated by the Women's Center, is partnering with the Farmers Market to bring fresh produce to food pantry clients. Students can pick up market vouchers at the Women's Center. The voucher program is also supported by the Women and Gender Studies program and Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Faculty and staff members can help by donating money for the voucher program, shop for extra items to be donated to the Student Food Pantry, or volunteer to collect and deliver produce to the Women’s Center.

Since it opened its doors in 2009, the Student Food Pantry has averaged one customer per day. For more information about the Student Food Pantry, contact Rachael DeWitt at the Women’s Center at x12748.

Goodwill Industries will have a donation truck in the parking lot during the opening day of the Farmers Market. The truck will be in parking lot F to receive donations from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Continuing a popular tradition, Campus Dining will serve a special lunch featuring items from market vendors from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
