Grand Valley Brass to give local performances

While the Grand Valley State University Brass Quintet is in Traverse City for Commencement, they will first give two performances for West Senior High School band students.

On Thursday, May 6, the Grand Valley quintet will perform master classes for the Wind Ensemble and the Concert Band, through arrangements with Pat Brumbaugh, band director at West Senior High.

"We perform a variety of music and talk with students about the benefits of playing chamber music and concepts to improve their musicianship," said Mark Williams, a member of the quintet and assistant professor of trombone at Grand Valley. "It is part of our outreach program to perform and inform pre-college students."

The quintet will also be performing at the Grand Valley Traverse City Commencement, held at the Grand Traverse Resort, at 6 p.m. For more information, contact Mark Williams at (616) 331-3537.
