About 950 Grand Valley State University students will participate
in the December Commencement ceremony, as the university celebrates
its 50th anniversary.
President Emeritus Arend D. Lubbers will address graduates
during Commencement. Lubbers became president of Grand Valley in 1969
at the age of 37, making him one of the youngest college presidents in
the nation. When he retired in 2001, he was the longest-serving public
university president in the country. During those 32 years, Lubbers
led Grand Valley’s evolution from a small college to a regional university.
Commencement will take place:
Saturday, December 11, at 10
a.m.
Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids
