Grand Valley holds sustainability summit

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The issue of sustainability on a local, state and national level will be discussed by a panel of local and university experts at Grand Valley State University.

The event, Grand Valley Summit on Sustainability, is sponsored by Grand Valley’s Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies and will be held Wednesday, April 7, beginning at 8 a.m. in Loosemore Auditorium, DeVos Center, on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus, 401 W. Fulton St.

The schedule of panelists is as follows:

8 a.m.: Sustainability and Leadership
• Mayor George Heartwell, Grand Rapids
• Christina Keller, Cascade Engineering

9:15 a.m.: Sustainability at Grand Valley
Moderator: Norman Christopher, director of Sustainability Initiative
• Wendy Wenner, dean of the College of Interdisciplinary Studies
• Jann Joseph, associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
• Selma Tucker, organizational efficiency analyst, City of Grand Rapids
• Emily Martin, Sustainability Community Development Initiative

10:45 a.m.: Sustainability in the 2010 Election
• Bob Synk (D) - Kent County Commission incumbent
