The GVSU Outdoor Art & Sculpture Exhibition Center for ArtPrize
2010 will feature 25 artists, nearly triple the number from last
year's event. They hail from locations as diverse as Poland, the
Netherlands and seven states in the U.S. extending from Colorado to Maine.
Located on Grand Valley's Pew Grand Rapids Campus, the
exhibition center is situated along the Grand River between Pearl and
Fulton Streets. The beautiful lawns and grounds of Grand Valley's
DeVos Center, Eberhard Center and Kennedy Hall of Engineering are
located near the Blue Bridge, providing a convenient pedestrian
connection between the exhibition center and the east side of the river.
More than an venue, which number 192 this year, Grand Valley is
one of seven Exhibition Centers, each curated by a regional cultural
institution, with an ArtPrize store and voter registration site. By
hosting 25 or more artists, the exhibition centers provide viewers an
opportunity to see more art in more neighborhoods.
An Opening Reception to meet the artists exhibiting at Grand
Valley will be held September 23, at 6:30 p.m., following the DeVos
Art Lecture in Loosemore Auditorium, DeVos Center, 401 W. Fulton,
Grand Rapids. At 5:30, guest speaker Eames Demetrios will weave some
of the myriad threads of his life journey as the grandson of Charles
and Ray Eames, to his own artistic creations, including the
alternative universe, Kcymaerxthaere. One of Eames' alternative
universe plaques was exhibited at Grand Valley during ArtPrize
2009.
ArtPrize exhibitions will continue through October
10. For more information about each of the artists participating at
Grand Valley and other related ArtPrize events, visit www.gvsu.edu/artgallery, or
