GVSU Physical Therapy students host event for local charity

The 14th Annual Wheel Run Together will be held on Saturday, April 17, on the Allendale Campus. The event, planned and organized by the GVSU Physical Therapy Class of 2011, brings wheelchair athletes, walkers, and runners together to raise money for Alternatives in Motion.

The event offers something for the entire family including a 5K run, 10K run, 5K walk, and 1-mile Fun-Walk.  In the last 12 years Wheel Run Together student organizers have contributed more than $47,000 to Alternatives in Motion.

“It's great to speak with individuals who really do care for their community and are willing to put in time to help out a great cause,” said student Kristi Howard.

Alternatives in Motion is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide wheelchairs to individuals who do not qualify for other assistance, and who could not obtain such equipment without financial aid. Founded in 1995 by Johnnie Tuitel and George Ranville, the organization has assisted over 950 individuals in 130 Michigan communities and 17 other states.

Registration for the event begins at 6:30 a.m. at the Fieldhouse with the 5K & 10K runs starting at 7:45 a.m. The walks will begin at 10 a.m. after a short presentation by Tuitel. More information and online registration is available at www.alternativesinmotion.org/wheelrun.
