The 293 colleges and universities of the NCAA Division II recently approved legislation that creates a more balanced life for their student-athletes. Grand Valley President Thomas J. Haas wrote about the changes in a Detroit News op-ed.
"Despite the growing public concern over academics taking a
backseat to athletics at many institutions of higher learning, the
actions of NCAA Division II prove that many colleges take seriously
the academic lives of their student-athletes.
