Hope professor to speak on challenges facing millennials

Patricia Roehling, professor and chair of psychology at Hope College, will speak at Grand Valley on "Balancing Work and Family: A Challenge for the Millennial Generation."

Her discussion is set for Tuesday, January 20, from 2:30 – 4:30 p.m. in the Cook-DeWitt Auditorium on the Allendale Campus. Following the lecture will be a student-led discussion. Roehling's presentation is sponsored by Work Life Connections and the Writing Department.


Roehling has been conducting research since 1997 in the area of work and family, a subject she became interested in when she was director of research at the Cornell Employment and Family Careers Institute. Roehling's other areas of research include weight discrimination, acculturation, and the well-being among Hispanic youth.

In 2004, Roehling co-wrote a book with Phyllis Moen, The Career Mystique: Cracks in the American Dream, which discusses the outdated myths of the career game that have been embedded in the American dream.
