Mindgating 2010 has science theme

Erupting volcanoes and radio astronomy will be a part of Mindgating: Experience Science, sponsored by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The event, known as tailgating for the mind, is planned each year around homecoming activities. It will take place as part of an open house and expo on Saturday, October 9, from 3-5 p.m. at the Laker Turf Building.

Steve Mattox, associate professor of geology, and Jim Krikke, instrument support technician in the Department of Chemistry, are co-presenters of a “volcano” that is scheduled to erupt at 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. just outside of the expo. The Department of Physics will have a radio astronomy demonstration.

A special program in honor of Grand Valley’s 50th anniversary begins at 4 p.m. with remarks from President Haas, musical performances, the Laker Marching Band and the Cheer and Dance teams.
