New to Grand Valley's celebration of Martin Luther King Day are two
complimentary breakfasts for students, faculty and staff members.
The breakfasts will begin at 8:45 a.m. on Monday, January 18, in
both the Grand River Room in the Kirkhof Center, and Loosemore
Auditorium in the DeVos Center. A short program will begin at 9:15
a.m. in the Kirkhof Center. Speakers will give their reflections of
what the day means to them.
Speakers will include President Thomas J. Haas; students Gregory
Copeland and Tova Mays; Lois Smith Owens, director of admissions and
recruitment for the School of Social Work; and Jeanne Arnold, vice
president for Inclusion and Equity.
The program will be Webcast and shown to the DeVos Center
audience. It will also be accessible online at www.gvsu.edu.
At 1:45 p.m., a silent march will begin on the steps of the
Zumberge Library. At 2:15 p.m., Randal Pinkett, author and CEO of BCT
Partners in New Jersey, will give the keynote address at 2:15 p.m. in
the Fieldhouse. His speech will followed by a performance from Voices
of GVSU.
