Students interested in a career in movement science had the
opportunity to talk with professionals in the field at the first
Movement Science Career and Internship Expo, held April 20 at the
Kirkhof Center.
Representatives from more than 20 community organizations took
part, including Bronson Hospital, Boys and Girls Club, Grand Rapids
Public Schools, MVP Athletic Club and Tobacco Free Partners. Students
also heard guest speakers from the West Michigan Sports Commission.
The event was made possible by an internship mini-grant awarded
to the Sports Leadership and Exercise Science programs by Career Services.
A second event will be held April 24, from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m., at
the DeVos Center on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus. The Sports Leadership
Program is hosting a professional development session with athletic
directors within the Grand Rapids Public School district. Faculty will
meet with the athletic directors to discuss national coaching
standards as they apply to athletic administration and coaching.
Topics include philosophy and ethics, injury prevention, and
administration and organization.
