A six-member team of Grand Valley theater students and alumni will take the award-winning Bard to Go program to Nova Scotia.
The touring program, which is part of Grand Valley's Shakespeare
Festival, includes a 50-minute collage of scenes from various
Shakespearean plays meant to engage young audiences. The program has
been performed before thousands of students in Michigan schools.
Bard to Go's production "Lovestruck," will be
presented at the Liverpool International Theatre Festival in Halifax,
Nova Scotia, during the week of May 18-24. The festival is an amateur
theatre competition featuring groups from around the world. In
addition, Grand Valley's group will perform in the Halifax secondary
schools. The production features excerpts from A Midsummer Night's
Dream, The Merchant of Venice, The Taming of the Shrew and Hamlet.
This will be the third consecutive year the program has traveled
beyond its West Michigan roots and into the international community.
Bard to Go traveled to Italy in 2009, where it won "Best in
Festival" at the Sapperlot Youth Theatre Festival in Brixen, to
China in 2008, and to Jamaica in 2005.
This year's trip is co-sponsored by the Grand Valley Shakespeare
Festival, the Padnos International Center, the Center for Integrative
Learning, and by fundraising and student contributions. For more
