This two-day Research Showcase is planned for students to present their thesis projects from Philosophy 495: Reality, Knowledge and Value (The Philosophy Capstone). Presentations will be in D1-129 Mackinac Hall, on Tuesday, December 7, and Wednesday, December 8, from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. There will be a lunch break from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Dean Frederick Antczak of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences will open the event with a welcome.
"Fifteen students will be presenting independent research that
they have completed this semester," said Kelly Parker, professor
of philosophy. "The range of topics is quite impressive, I think,
everything from investigations of traditional questions such as the
problem of evil, to historical studies, to contemporary developments
in areas including logic, environmental and ecofeminist thought, and
postcolonial philosophy."
The showcase should be especially interesting for philosophy
majors and minors who will be taking the Capstone course in future
semesters. A program with abstracts of the papers will be distributed
at the showcase.
