Presentation focuses on shamanism

Shamanic themes are increasing present in popular culture. Contemporary rock artists and film directors regularly incorporate shamanic themes into their work.

C. Michael Smith (aka Mikkal) will help participants understand this phenomenon during a presentation, “Why Shamanism Now?” October 13, 6 p.m., at the Cook-DeWitt Center on the Allendale Campus.

He is an author, Jungian analyst, and shamanic healer with more than 30 years of experience. He will discuss how these images in popular culture point towards a way to revision relationships with the earth and with each other. The event is free and open to the public. A reception follows his presentation. Artist Michael Johnson will present his artwork at the event.

The event is sponsored by the Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies and the Department of Liberal Studies. For more information, contact Maureen Wolverton at x18559 or [email protected].
