President Thomas J. Haas talked about Grand Valley’s positive
impact on the state’s economy during an interview on WJR radio. Haas
was on the Paul W. Smith Show, broadcast live from the J.W. Marriott
in downtown Grand Rapids as part of the show’s “Live” Michigan Tour broadcast.
Haas explained how Grand Valley plays a significant role in
Michigan’s economy, making a total estimated impact of more than
$643.9 million in the three-county region surrounding the Allendale
Campus. He said the university has invested more than $49 million on
new and remodeled facilities in 2009, creating 1,230 trade and
construction jobs.
Haas also mentioned enrollment growth from the southeast side of
the state, the importance of Grand Valley to a vibrant downtown and
how the university just celebrated its 75,000th graduate at the May 1
commencement ceremonies - Chelsea Robinson, who is from Fairview and
currently lives in Walker.
