John Kilbourne, professor of movement science, was recognized by
Steelcase for researching activity permissible classroom spaces and
introducing the furniture maker’s innovative desk/chair to his students.
Kilbourne agreed to use Steelcase's "node" chair in
his classroom. The node has wheels and is designed for quick, easy
transitions between a lecture-based classroom and a collaborative
setting. Kilbourne said his students enjoyed the ease quickly moving
their desks together to work on projects.

Several years ago, Kilbourne began researching the use of
exercise balls as seating in his classroom.
