ALLENDALE, MICH. - Grand Valley State University will bring
carillon concert series to two campuses this summer, featuring
performers from throughout the U.S., as well as Copenhagen, Denmark
and the Netherlands. Each open air concert is open to the public with
free admission. All concerts will take place rain or shine. Free
parking is available at both campuses.
The 16th Annual Cook Carillon International Concert Series on
the Allendale Campus opens with guest carillonneur Jon Lehrer of New
York, on Sunday, June 20. This series, which includes the popular
Patriotic Concert July 4 and the Christmas concert July 25, continues
each Sunday through August 22. The final performance, by guest
carillonneur John Courter of Berea College, Kentucky, will include his
composition, "Suite No. 4 for Carillon," commissioned by
Grand Valley for the 50th Anniversary. All concerts in this series are
at 8 p.m., except the Open Tower event, June 27, which begins at 7 p.m.

The 10th Annual Beckering Family Carillon International Concert
Series kicks off July 7 with a performance by Grand Valley State
University Carillonneur Julianne Vanden Wyngaard. This series of noon
concerts, on Wednesdays throughout July, are held at the Lacks
International Plaza, DeVos Center, on the Pew Grand Rapids Campus, 401
W. Fulton, Grand Rapids. Free parking is available in Watson Lot,
south of Fulton Street behind Secchia Hall.
