During the 2009 United Way campaign, Grand Valley faculty and staff
members responded generously in the face of tough times, posting
increases both in the number of people giving and the amount given.
Those efforts were honored by Heart of West Michigan United Way during
a February 11 awards ceremony.
Grand Valley's annual United Way campaign was honored with three
awards, including the Coordinator of the Year Award for campaign
co-cordinator Marlene Kowalski-Braun.
The award honors coordinators who have at least three years of
experience, have shown improvement, innovation and an increase in
participation. Kowalski-Braun was lauded her for her 10 years of
service with the campaign.
Grand Valley was also presented with the Platinum Star award,
given to the Top 10 campaigns in the region; and the Lasting Change
award, which honored the campaigns that had the largest increases in
total funds raised.
The campaign ran for two weeks in October and saw donations from
1,150 employees, raising $149,075. That's an increase over 2008's
1,081 employees giving $141,157.
