A service-learning organization at Grand Valley is seeking
participants for their annual winter and spring break trips.
Alternative Breaks, a student organization that promotes
service-learning by attending weekend and weeklong trips across the
country, welcomes all Grand Valley students. The winter and spring
break trips this year will take place from January 1-7 and March
3-10.
The student organization coordinates dozens of trip every year
that focus on issues such as affordable housing, disaster relief,
hunger and homelessness, organic farming, park preservation, wildlife
refuge and children at risk. Past trips include volunteering at Family
Services of South Texas, where students painted and organized rooms,
and other organizations in Maryland, Florida, Chicago, North Carolina
and the District of Columbia.
Each trip costs $250, which covers housing, transportation and
food, and scholarships and fundraising opportunities are available.
Applications for the winter and spring break trips are due by Friday,
December 9; students can submit an application on the group’s website
at www.gvsualternativebreaks.com.
