Campus event will raise funds to battle digestive diseases

Grand Valley is hosting the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation Take Steps Walk, the first walk of its kind to take place in West Michigan. The event, which will raise funds to find a cure for the digestive diseases that affect more than 1.4 million people, is organized by the Crohn’s and Colitis Student Initiative at Grand Valley.

“The walks I’ve attended before are like celebrations,” said Justin Gray, president of the CCSI and a junior majoring in nursing. “We want this walk to be the same. There will be presentations, live music and crafts; it will be very family-friendly.”

Participants can choose to walk one-mile or three-mile routes. Participants are encouraged to create a team of walkers and raise funds that will go toward patient care, education and research. The walk will feature presentations from two Honored Heros, people that have overcome Crohn’s or Colitis disease, from Grand Valley. They will initiate the walk with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

To register as an individual walker, join a team or start a team visit www.cctakesteps.org.
