In the spirit of Grand Valley’s 50th anniversary, the theme of this
year’s Community Outreach Week is “50 for 50.”
University organizers are looking for volunteers to participate
in 50 volunteer projects locally and nationally. Community Outreach
Week offers opportunities for individuals and groups to volunteer time
to help with service projects in West Michigan and across the country.
Sponsored by Grand Valley’s Alumni Association and the Community
Service Learning Center, COW will run March 21-26.
Chris Barbee, director of Alumni Relations, says Grand Valley
alumni are encouraged to take part in a project for that will benefit
their community. “Individuals, alumni friends, and families can all
volunteer their time by donating blood, cleaning a park or sorting and
distributing food for people in need,” Barbee said.
The current list of projects is online at www.gvsu.edu/cow,
click on the “Volunteer Now” link. There are also links to submit a
new project and a list of resources to search for an organization or
service project.
In 2010, more than 150 volunteers in six different states
participated in COW.
