Three Grand Valley School of Engineering students will compete at
the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) national
conference in Colorado in November. They qualified after placing at
the ASME Student Professional Development Conference hosted by Grand
Valley in March.
Student team Jake Hall and Kathy Drouillard won first place in
the student design competition for their project, “The Wheels on This
Go Round and Round.” Senior Julie Kim won the first-place Oral Guard
Award Presentation and Best Technical Content award, and Luke Bomers
took second for his oral presentation.
Hall, Kim and Drouillard will go on to the ASME conference and
present at the International Mechanical Engineering Congress &
Exposition, competing in the oral presentation and design competition.
Only two teams from each ASME district compete in the international
competition annually.
“It means a lot to me and even more to the School of Engineering
because it’s a reflection of what Grand Valley’s engineering program
has come to mean to students and what they’ve accomplished,” said
Sung-Hwan Joo, assistant professor of engineering and ASME student
section co-advisor. “This is a success for students who have helped
build the program and for those who, in the future, will take us to
even greater heights.”
