Terry Pahl, facilities engineer, gave a presentation, "Grand Valley State University Energy Projects," at the Michigan Energy Conference in Big Rapids.

WGVU received Emmy nominations from the Michigan chapter of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences for "LZ Michigan: A Journey Home" (documentary-cultural) and "LZ Michigan Highlights" (special event coverage).

Mark Wittkoski, WGVU maintenance engineer, gave a presentation, "Radio Data Service," at the Michigan Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference.

Valerie V. Peterson, associate professor of communications, gave a presentation, "Public Talk about Private Acts: Sex Talk and Sexual Agency," at Gender Matters: An Interdisciplinary Conference at Governors State University in University Park, Illinois.

Sharalle Arnold, director of the Children’s Enrichment Center, received a grant from the Michigan Association for the Education of Young Children to develop a leadership workshop for area early childhood program directors.

News and Information Services received gold PRoof awards from the West Michigan Public Relations Society of America for the 50th anniversary campaign, 50th anniversary video, Around Grand Valley tour video, Grand Valley Magazine and for social media promotion of Grand Valley’s lipdub video.

David Alvarez, associate professor of English, gave a presentation, “Moroccan and Spanish Narratives of Clandestine Migration and the Re-mythologizing of the Mediterranean,” at a Comparative Literature Department symposium held at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Tim Wood, special assistant to the president for charter schools, was named the AdvancED Michigan Excellence in Education Award honoree by AdvancED Michigan for his leadership in promoting and advancing excellence in education.

West Michigan Science & Technology Initiative received a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's Michigan Strategic Fund to create and promote high-tech mini-labs for early stage life science companies.

WGVU received a grant from the Grand Rapids Community Foundation to increase connections and strengthen community with WGVU members.

Paul J. Reitemeier, chair of the Human Research Review Committee, conducted two workshops, "Sensitive Data, Incidental Findings and Timely Review & Reporting in Social, Behavioral and Education Research" and "IRB Review of Survey Research: Balancing Risks & Benefits," at the Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research national meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.
