CCPS Advising Center staff members Amy M. Burns and Anne M. London (pictured above) were honored with outstanding advising awards from the Michigan Academic Advising Association at the organization’s annual meeting.

News and Information Services received a Hermes Creative Platinum Award from the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals for the 50th anniversary video.

John Stevenson, associate dean of Graduate Studies, and radiologic and imaging sciences faculty members Julie Hollenbeck and Bonita Pawloski wrote an article, "Effect of Patient Handling Education on Radiation Therapy Students," published in Radiologic Technology.

Richard Stoelzel, professor of music, authored a successful bid that Grand Valley will host the 38th Annual International Trumpet Guild Conference in June 2013.

Charlie Lowe, assistant professor of writing, received the 7Cs Technology Innovator Award and the Computers and Composition Michelle Kendrick Outstanding Digital Production/Scholarship Award from the Conference on College Composition and Communication at its annual meeting.

The New Music Ensemble, under the direction of Bill Ryan, associate professor of music, was invited to perform at Columbia University School of the Arts' New York open-air concert premiere of John Luther Adams' "Inuksuit."

Michael R. Ott, associate professor of sociology, chaired the opening day of a weeklong course, "The Future of Religion: Politics, Art, Religion," and also gave a presentation, "Walter Benjamin's Revolutionary Theory of Religion and History: The 'Dialectical Image.'"

AWRI staff members Alan Steinman, Mary Ogdahl, Nadia Gillett and student Whitney Nelson gave four presentations at the annual meeting of the North American Benthological Society in Providence, Rhode Island. Steinman also organized a workshop, “Peer Review Primer.”

Mick Doxey, director of Auxiliary Services, has been named the first director of Risk Management and will become part of the University Counsel office on July 1.
