As part of National Engineering Week, Grand Valley faculty members
will participate in the Grand Rapids Public Museum’s Student
Engineering Week, which aims to educate third-seventh grade students
about the profession.
A 90-minute program will run Monday, Wednesday and Friday during
the week of February 21-25, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. It is free and
open to the public.
Grand Valley will showcase the student and faculty homemade
robots Sparky II and Buffy the Autonomous Robot. Educational
activities about the emerging field of nanotechnology will also be
featured as part of a grant from the National Science Foundation given
to professors Nael Barakat and Heidi Jiao.
“We’re excited to show off our engineering program and provide
activities that will educate these young students about the different
things they can do with an engineering degree,” said Barakat.
